ACI Group calls on the power of pea protein to enhance clean-label snack options

ACI’s extensive portfolio of functional ingredients contains a number of pea protein formats, which can be used to improve the protein content and mouthfeel of a number of snack foods ranging from cereal bars to cakes.

Trish Fellowes, Food Sales Manager at ACI said, “Pea protein is great to work with as it is a highly versatile non-allergen ingredient. Consumers increasingly expect an element of indulgence when they purchase snacks, meaning manufacturers are looking for ingredients that give them better control over the taste, texture, and overall quality of their offering.

“Our range of pea protein innovations contains solutions that can deliver the solubility, stability, and dispersibility manufacturers look for without compromising taste or mouthfeel. This enables them to meet growing consumer demands for sustainable functional snacks and plant-based options while raising quality across their product lines.”

ACI Group's expanded pea protein range offers versatile solutions for various product needs. The isolated pea protein, with 83% protein content, is ideal for drinks, desserts, and baked goods, while yellow pea (50% protein) and chickpea (38% protein) powders provide options for moderate protein formulations. Pea protein nuggets, available in three shapes with 55% or 70% protein, are perfect for protein bars and confectionery traybakes. For meat alternatives, texturised pea protein flakes (74.6% protein) deliver a meat-like texture suitable for savoury applications.

Pea protein enables manufacturers to engage health-conscious consumers by making specific health claims. Products can be labelled as ‘high in protein’ if at least 20% of the food’s energy value comes from protein – a claim that plays an increasingly important role in many consumers’ purchasing decisions.

“Pea protein is the answer to a number of major trends driving growth in the healthy snacking segment,” added Fellowes. “And manufacturers now have more options than ever to create indulgent experiences that offer exciting flavours, textures, and aftertastes in their products.”
